A group of election officials who were taken under control by cadres of Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal (RJP-N) in Rajbiraj, Saptari, have been released an hour after the incident.
The RJP-N cadres released the 55 election officers deployed in Saptari district warning them not to take part in election-related training programme.
Cadres of the agitating Madhes-based party had taken election officials Kapil Dev Yadav, Kejulal Chaudhary, Rabindra Shah, Arun Kumar Das, Baidhyanath Shah and Bindhu Khanga under their control while the officers were about to begin an election-related training programme at Mahendra Bindeshwori Multiple Campus in district headquarters Rajbiraj.
The RJP-N cadres are picketing the campus and are protesting outside the campus premises. Local administration has deployed numbers of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force personnel in the area.
After the incident, Saptari District Election Office Chief Mahesh Kumar Thakur informed that the election training programme has been postponed indefinitely until further notice.
RJP-N has refused to take part in second phase of local bodies election until their demands including constitution amendment are fulfilled by the government.
