Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu

Nepal Petroleum Dealers’ Association, the apex body of private petrol pumps, on Wednesday announced fresh protest programmes demanding increment in technical loss the petroleum dealers have been facing while transporting the petroleum products. Organising a press conference in the Capital on Wednesday, the Association said that the petroleum dealers would not purchase petrol from the depot from August 10. The Association further said that it would not purchase both petrol and diesel from Sunday if the government did not address the demand. The petrol pumps would not sell petroleum products from Tuesday if the government continued to turn its blind eye to their demand within that time frame, the Association said. Earlier, the government had committed to address their demand by mid-July. The petroleum dealers had claimed that they have been facing loss of around 85 litres on the purchase of each 4,000-litre tanker from Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC). Under the current provision of NOC, the corporation allows deduction of only 35 litres of petrol and 60 litres of diesel on every 4,000 litres of fuel supplied to dealers via NOC’s oil depots. The NOC, state-owned monopoly, has been reviewing the price assuming 24 litres of loss. According to knowledgeable sources, the condition of tankers should also be improved along with the compensation of technical loss.
