Government Doctors’ Association of Nepal (GODAN) has halted OPD services except emergency care in all hospitals across the country from Friday to put pressure on the government to address Dr Govinda KC’s demands. Alarmed by the deteriorating health condition Dr Govinda KC, whose indefinite hunger strike has entered 19th day today, the umbrella organisation of doctors working in state-run health facilities came together in support of Dr KC. They resorted to the move after the government showed lackadaisical approach in addressing Dr KC's demands. An emergency meeting of GODAN held on Thursday decided to launch the strike saying that no clear breakthrough has been achieved in the talks held so far concerning the agitating doctor's demands. GODAN President Dr Dipendra Pandey said in a statement, yesterday, that an emergency meeting of GODAN decided to boycott the services “though we will attend emergency patients and those who are already admitted.” “We have also asked government doctors to refrain from private practices during the protest,” read the statement adding that the government has to take the responsibility of the impact of protest on patients across the country. Meanwhile, Nepal Medical Association (NMC) on Thursday issued a 24-hour ultimatum to correct decisions on the Health Profession Education Bill saying that the taskforce formed to study the HPE Bill has made “controversial” decisions of granting affiliations to some medical colleges before enforcing a ten-year moratorium on opening new medical schools in the Kathmandu valley. The NMA has warned of stern protests “if the government fails to act by today to save Dr KC’s life”. डाक्टर गोविन्द केसीको अनशनको १९ औँ दिनमा समेत सरकारले माग पुरा नगरेपछि डाक्टरहरूले आजदेखि देशभरका सरकारी अस्पतालहरूको आकस्मिक बाहेकको स्वास्थ्य सेवा ठप्प बनाएका छन्। सत्याग्राही अभियन्ताको ज्यानै जोखिममा पर्दासमेत सरकार संवेदनहीन बनेको भन्दै डाक्टरहरूले सेवा छोडेका हुन्। सरकारी चिकित्सक संघ (गोडान), रेजिडेन्ट डाक्टर एसोसिएशन अफ नामस्, नेशनल डाक्टर रेजिडेन्ट डाक्टर एसोसिएशन लगायतका संघसस्थाको आह्वानमा आजदेखि देशभरका सरकारी अस्पताका आकस्मिक बाहेकका सेवा बन्द भएको हो। चिकित्सकहरूले माथेमा प्रतिवेदन अनुसार चिकित्सा ऐन तत्काल पारित गरी डा.केसीको माग पुरा नगरेसम्म काममा नफर्कने घोषणा गरेका छन् । यसैबीच चिकित्सक संघले समेत जबरजस्ती माथेमा प्रतिवेदनको भावना विपरित विहीबार संसदीय उपसिमितबाट पारित विधयेक फिर्ता नगरे थप आन्दोलनको कार्यक्रम घोषणा गर्ने जनाएको छ। डा. केसीको स्वास्थ्य निकै जोखिममा परेको विहीबारै स्वास्थ्य मन्त्रालयले संसदीय समितिलाई समेत जानकारी गराइसकेको छ।
