Doctors shut medical services in Birgunj

The ‘Sachet Nagarik Birgunj’, a group of small organisation in the district, has organised a relay protest demanding to save senior orthopaedic surgeon Govinda KC’s life at Maisthan of Birgunj, Parsa, from Saturday. Supporting the ongoing protest lead by Dr Jagadish Agrawal of the Nepal Medical Association in Birgunj, doctors associated with hospitals including the Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital and other government hospitals, have stopped medical services except for the emergency services. The doctors in support of KC have also stopped services in the private clinics and are participating in the relay protest. Doctors including Niraj Singh, Dina Gupta, Lalbabu Prasad Kurmi, Harendra Patel, Narayan Singh, Shyam Sundar Das, Prakash Tharu, Shivnath Yadav, and Advocate Deepak Rajbhandari are present in the protest. “Following the failure to address the demand of the senior orthopaedic surgeon, doctors in Birgunj have been forced to shut down the services,” said Dr Agarwal. Government will have to bear the responsibilities of the subsequent inconvenience to the general public, he added. Agarwal further warned of stringent option if government further continues it blatant disregard to KC’s demand. Meanwhile, the inflow of the patients at Birgunj-based Narayani Sub-regional Hospital have increased, informed Medical Superintendent at the hospital Dr Chittaranjan Saha.
