School students stage sit-in, demand reform in education sector

Hundreds of school students in Saptari have launched a sit-in protest at Gajendra Chok in Rajbiraj from today, demanding reforms in the education sector. The students associated with the local Laligurans Child Club put forth a charter of 14 points demand including declaring school a peace zone, school remain open during any shutdown. Their other demands include a guarantee of free registration of exam and practical fees upto Grade XII, and timely supply of textbooks to the community schools, among others. Earlier, the child club members had also taken to the streets for the same cause. The agitators have warned to intensify the protest if the concerned authorities fail t address their demands. However, Saptari’s Chief District Officer Bhagirath Pandey paid ignorance about the protest. Saptari’s District Education Officer Dolraj Pandey said they are positive towards addressing the demands.
