At least eight people including two police officials were injured after police opened fire on protesters while they were staging demonstration demanding arrest of the culprit involved in the rape and murder case of Nirmala Panta on Thursday. Those injured are Arjun Bhandari, 17, of Bhimdatta Municipality-18. According to police, Bhandari has received a bullet in his left leg. He has been taken to Seti Zonal hospital after preliminary treatment at Mahakali Zonal hospital. Other injured include Tej Bhatta, Krita Paneru, Manoj Budha and Santosh Kathariya. They have sustained shrapnel injuries. Similarly, police head constable Harka Bahadur Pal and constable Mahesh Bhatta have also been injured in the clash. Kanchapur locals have been demonstrating for the last three days demanding arrest of the culprit involved in the raping and killing of Nirmala Panta, a 13-year-old girl of Bhimdatta municipality-2, Kanchanpur. The irate locals had called an indefinite strike on last Tuesday. The indefinite strike has brought the life in Kanchanpur to a grinding halt. Kanchanpur Police arrested 41-year-old Dilip Singh Bista, a local of Bhimdatta Municipality-19, in connection with the Nirmala rape case after 24 days of the incident. Nonetheless, locals do not believe Bista’s involvement in the case as he is mentally retarded and have accused the police administration of arresting him to simply dispel the agitation of the protesters. Market places in Mahendranagar, Suda, Lalpur, Daiji, Champhapur, Sisaiya, Bhansi, schools and factories and transportation have remained closed due to the strike. Demonstrators have been burning tyres in the major thoroughfares of the town while students from various schools too have been taking part in the demonstrations. Security personnel have been mobilized in large numbers in protesting areas to avert the untoward incidents, according to the District Police Office, Kanchanpur. A team led by SSP Chand has been formed and mandated to look into the murder case of Panta. A 13-year-old Nirmala Panta had been ruthlessly raped and killed while she was returning home from her friend's house at Bhimdatta municipality-2, Kanchanpur on July 26. Nirmala's body was found dumped in a sugarcane field the following day. बलात्कार पछि हत्या गरिएकी निर्मला पन्तको वास्तविक हत्यारा पत्ता लगाउन माग गर्दै महेन्द्रनगरमा जारी आन्दोलनका क्रममा झडप हुँदा आठ जना घाईते भएका छन्। विहीबार बिहानैदेखि जारी आन्दोलनमा प्रहरी र आन्दोलनकारीबीच झडप हँदा छ जना आन्दोलनकारी र दुई जना प्रहरी घाईते भएका हुन्। स्थितिलाई नियन्त्रणमा लिन प्रहरीले गोली चलाएको थियो। जिल्ला प्रशाशन कार्यालय उत्तर तर्फ ट्राफिक चोकमा सयौंको संख्यामा रहेका आन्दोलनकारी र प्रहरीबीच तनावपूर्ण अवस्था सृजना भएपछि प्रहरीले चलाएको गोली लागेर कञ्चनपुरको भीमदत्त नगरपालिका–१८ का १७ बर्षीय अर्जुन भण्डारी घाईते भएका छन्। उनको बाँया खुट्टामा गोली लागेको छ। महाकाली अञ्चल अस्पतालमा प्राथमिक उपचारपछि थप उपचारकालागि भण्डारीलाई कैलालीको सेती अञ्चल अस्पताल पठाईएको अञ्चल अस्पतालले जनाएको छ। घटनामा अन्य पाँच जना आन्दोलनकारीलाई गोलीको छर्रा लागेर घाईते भएको महाकाली अञ्चल अस्पतालले जनाएको छ। घाईते हुनेमा तेज भट्ट, कृत पनेरु, मनोज बुढा, सरोज खड्का र सन्तोष कठरिया रहेका छन्। त्यस्तै आन्दोलनकारीको ढुंगामुढा प्रहारबाट प्रहरी हवल्दार हर्कबहादुर पाल र जवान महेश भट्ट घाइते भएका छन्। घाइतेहरुको महाकाली अञ्चल अस्पतालमा उपचार हुँदैछ। भीमदत्त नगरपालिका–२ खोल्टी निवासी १३ वर्षीया निर्मला साउन १० गतेदेखि वेपत्ता थिईन्। साउन ११ गते उनको शव भीनपा – १९ को एक उखुबारीमा फेला परेको थियो। घटनाको तीन सातापछि प्रहरीले आइतबार भीमदत्तनगरपालिका–१९ बागफाँटाका ४१ बर्षीया दिलिपसिंह विष्टलाई हत्याका अभियुक्त भन्दै सार्वजनिक गरेको थियो। मानसिक अवस्था कमजोर भएका बिष्टलाई हत्याराभनि सार्वजनिक गरेपछि आन्दोलन झन चर्किएको हो। आन्दोलनमा स्थानीय, नागरिक समाज, नागरिक संघर्ष समिति, व्यापार व्यवसायी उत्रेका छन्। तीन दिनदेखि महेन्द्रनगर बजार पूर्णरुपमा बन्द छ। बुधबारदेखि सदरमुकारम महेन्द्रनगरसंगै वरपरका विद्यालय र क्याम्पसमा पठनपाठन बन्द छ। जिल्ला प्रहरी कार्यालय कञ्चनपुरका प्रवक्ता प्रहरी नायव उपरीक्षक ज्ञानबहादुर सेटीले आन्दोलनकारी र प्रहरीबीच झडप भएको जानकारी गराउँदै क्षतीबारे जानकारी लिइरहेको बताए। आन्दोलनकारीले दिउँसो २ बजे जिल्ला प्रहरी कार्यालय घेराउ गरेका छन्। एसपी डिल्ली बिष्टको सरुवाको माग राख्दै उनको पुत्लाको शवयात्रा निकाल्दै दुई हजार बढी आन्दोलनकारी जिप्रका पुगेका थिए। दैजीदेखि निकालिएको पुत्लाको जिप्रका अगाडि दहन गरेका छन्। जिल्ला प्रहरी कार्यालय अगाडि आन्दोलनकारीले नाराबाजी गर्दा प्रहरीले तीन दर्जन बढी अश्रृग्याँस प्रहार गरेको छ । समाचार तयार पारुजेलसम्म अश्रृग्याँस प्रहार जारी रहेको छ। घटनाको छानविनकालागि प्रदेश नं. ७ प्रहरीले वरिष्ठ प्रहरी उपरीक्षक विक्रम चन्दलाई कञ्चनपुर खटाएको छ। वरिष्ठ प्रहरी उपरीक्षक चन्दले विहीबार नै घटनाको छानविन थाल्ने प्रहरी स्रोतले जनाएको छ।
