Nepal Independent Vehicle Drivers Struggle Committee declared transportation strike from Sep 18. They called the strike against the new Transportation Act. They said that the new act was unfavorable to the transport laborers. They demanded for amendments in the new act. The protestors said that the new act saw drivers as criminals and demanded that the penalty of life imprisonment. The drivers called a nation-wide strike due to which Eastern Hilly districts like Jhapa, Sunsari and Morang were most affected. नेपाल स्वतन्त्र सवारी चालक संघर्ष समितिको आन्दोलनका कारण पूर्वी नेपाल तथा देशभर सार्वजनिक यातायात ठप्प रहेको छ ।सरकारद्वारा जारि गरिएको सवारी ऐन यातायात मजदुरमैत्री नभएको भन्दै मंगलबारदेखि सार्वजनिक यातायात नचलाउने निर्णय गरेका हुन् ।जारि गरिएको ऐन संशोधनको माग राख्दै आन्दोलनमा उत्रिएका चालकले माग पूरा नभएसम्म यातायात नचलाउने घोषणा गरेका हुन् ।ऐनमा सवारी चालकलाई अपराधीसरह बनाएको,जन्मकैदको फैसला गर्ने व्यवस्थाप्रति असन्तुष्ट रहेको र यातायात ठप्प पार्नुको विकल्प नभएको चालकले बताएका छन् । पूर्वका झापा, मोरङ,सुनसरी लगायत पूर्वी पहाडी जिल्लाहरुमा सार्वजनिक यातायात ठप्प रहनुका साथै हजारौँ यात्रुहरु मार्कामा परेका छन् ।
