Hundreds of people participated in a protest programme at Maitighar today, demanding that the government make public the report of a high-level investigation committee on the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta. Nirmala, a 13-year old girl of Bhimdatta Municipality in Kanchanpur district was reported missing on July 26 and her body was found in a sugarcane field the next day. A high-level investigation committee lead by Joint Secretary Hari Prasad Mainali was formed by the government to investigate the case after local police officers botched up the preliminary investigation. The probe committee had submitted the report to Minister of Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa behind closed doors on September 25. Participants of the protest programme also decried the government’s silence and demanded that the culprit/s be booked as soon as possible. The demonstrators condemned Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the Minister of Home Affairs Ram BahadurThapa for ‘protecting the criminals while trying to politicise the matter. They also accused the government authorities of deliberately destroying evidences at the place where Nirmala’s body was found. Human rights organisations have also demanded that the government thoroughly investigate Roshani Bam and Babita Bam who were the last persons to see Nirmala before she went missing. They have also accused the government of torturing innocent people in the name of police investigation. बलात्कारपछि हत्या गरिएकी कञ्चनपुरकी १३ वर्षीया किशोरी निर्मला पन्तका हत्यारालाई कारवाहीको माग गर्दै शनिबार माइतीघर मण्डलामा प्रदर्शन गरिएको छ। प्रदर्शनकारीले गृह मन्त्रालयको छानविन समितिले तयार पारेको घटनाको अध्ययन प्रतिवेदन समेत सार्वजनिक गर्न माग गरेका छन्। ‘निर्मलालाई न्याय’ नारासहित स्वतः स्फुर्त रुपमा उपस्थित भई नागरिक अभियन्ताहरुले माइतीघरमा नागरिक दबाब कार्यक्रम गरेका थिए। उनीहरुले ‘सरकार कहाँ चुक्दैछ, बलात्कारीसँग झुक्दैछ, गृहमन्त्री के हेर्दै, बलात्कारीले देश घेर्दै, निर्मलाई देऊ न्याय, नागरिकमाथि भयो अन्याय’ जस्ता नारा लेखिएका प्ले कार्ड बोकेका थिए। निर्मलाको साउन १० गते बलात्कारपछि हत्या भएको थियो। घटना भएको दुई महिना वितिसक्दा पनि हत्यारा पत्ता लाग्न सकेको छैन्। घटना अझै अनुसन्धानमै रहेका बेला नागरिक अभियन्ता सरकारलाई दबाब दिन प्रदर्शनमा उत्रिएका हुन्।
