Locals at Maruwa in Katari Municipality of Udaypur clashed with police over transport of cement factory limestone on Saturday night.
Locals had stopped tippers carrying limestone for Cosmos Cement Factory at Maruwa. The clash ensued when police reached the site and asked the locals to let the tippers continue to their journey. Locals said they were misbehaved by police personnel who were under DSP Dhruba Shrestha.
Locals had reached an agreement not to operate tippers during festive period. There was dispute with Cosmos Cement Factory as it was running tippers against the agreement.
Katari Municipality-4 ward chairman Krishna Danuwar said the inebriated police personnel misbehaved and charged batons. Danuwar informed four women were injured in the scuffle. They have returned home after treatment at Katari Hospital.
Police, however, said the tippers were stopped by some drunken youths. When police arrested the youths, women surrounded them and the scuffle broke out.
