Citing a rise in cases of violence against woman mainly due to alcohol abuse, local women protested on Sunday demanding the government to curb bootleg liquor production in the region.
According to the Women Rights Forum Bajura Chair Nirmala Rokaya, protests were carried out to pile pressure on local government to take measures to control and monitor cases of alcohol abuse.
As per District Police Office stats, 11 cases of violence against women and 58 other criminal cases occurred because of unchecked alcohol use disorder in the region.
Moreover, 85 per cent of cases of domestic violence registered at police offices in the district have been caused by rampant alcoholism.
