Farmers protest by pouring milk on the road

Members of Sunwara Agriculture cooperative of Shuklafata Municipality-11, Kanchanpur protested on East-West highway by pouring 200 liters of expired milk as the milk was not sold. President of the cooperative, Bikram Bahadur Bhandari told that the holding capacity of cold store of cooperative was full and Dairy Development Corporation, Attaria didn’t collect milk on time. Mr. Bhandari added “This wastage has led to loss of Cooperative”.  

Sometimes when the members of cooperative took the milk after measuring themselves, the corporation paid less money uttering either the quantity was less or the fat quantity was less. A total of 700 liters of milk is collected from farmers of Suklaphantha municipality and Krishnapur municipality by cooperative.

 Bhandari questioned, “Is this what the government talks about the plan and policies relating encouragement of dairy’s farmers? They can’t even use the present production by farmers.”

Whilst chief of DDC, Attariya Mr. Govinda Lekhak claims that there was agreement with the cooperative regarding collection of milk on daily basis. The agreement speaks that corporation was not able to collect more than 250 liters of milk daily. If it exceeds, the cooperative would be responsible for protection and selling of milk. Regarding the situation of protest, he clarified that due to problem in vehicle it couldn’t reach on that very day to collect.
