Province 1, Sunsari, Duhabi
An incident of rape on a 13-year-old girl in Sunsari has been settled by the police without forwarding it to legal proceedings. A 13-year-old girl was raped by a 17-year-old boy in Sunsari. The incident came into light after a week when the case was settled through reconciliation by the Area Police Office Duhavi, calling it a love affair. The victim's family was forced to settle the case through mutual understanding and economic compensation.
Police had earlier arrested the boy on the basis of an oral complaint filed by the girl's family accusing him of raping her on July 27 by luring her. Police however, refused to register any complaint against him and forced the girl's family into reconciliation. The girl had gone missing on July 27 and came back home a week after that with the boy. According to Rights activists, police forced the girl's family to settle the case without even sending the girl for medical examination on August 3.
