Police clashed with locals of Bakulahar village in Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City-15 on Wednesday night. Police fired 7 rounds of tear gas shells after the clash took violent turn. Few persons from both sides were injured in the clash.
The clash occurred when police reached the village to remove the statue of Chhathi Mata made of mud and bricks from Chhath Ghat. Hindu and Muslim communities of the area had agreed to remove the statue on November 5. There is a muslim burial site near the Chhath Ghat. According to DSP Ranjitsingh Rathore, inspector Rudra Bahadur Shahi and few security personnel sustained injury in the incident after locals pelted them with stones.
According to a local leader Madan Sahani, few women and other sustained injury after police baton charged them.
