The students affiliated with Nepal Student Union (NSU), the student union associated with Nepali Congress, vandalized the office of Professor Doctor Dharmakanta Baskota, the vice-chancellor of the Tribhuwan University (TU), accusing him of appointing the wrong person in the office.
NSU TU secretary Yogendra Rawal claimed that the students resorted to vandalism after the vice-chancellor ignored their demands.
He said "We started the strike because the vice-chancellor tried to use force on the students by setting up a police post inside the university. He also accused the vice-chancellor of failing to guarantee the Student Union's election and the quality of education at the University. Hari Acharya, the chairperson of NSU, further said that NSU would retaliate in a strong way if their demands were not met.
