Women Violence Increasing

Saptari,mahila hinsa badhdo. In 2013, there were three cases of murder of women, witchcraft allegations and 20 cases of rape which includes 14 girls and six women. Among the three cases of murder, one minor girl and two women were victimized. In case of minor girl’s murder, there was the involvement of her father and family members including their husband were involved in a murder of other two women. Among those perpetrators, three of the accused were remanded in custody by the court order, one was released on bail where as other four are at large. Among 20 rapes and 14 attempted rape cases one boy, 21 girls and 14 women were victimized whereas 47 people were accused. The police have registered 28 cases at District Court. One of the accused is under investigation on date at district police office. At least seven people escaped the charges due to the pressure and agreement. Out of 40 accused, 10 of them are in custody, one under police control and 14 are at large. Two of them got the clean chit, two were released on date and five were released on bail. The court has ordered to send two of the underage boys in Child Rehab Center, two others were handed over to their parents and other two were released on date. During this period, out of four incidents of allegation of witchcraft, the women of 35, 40, 65 and 70 years old respectively were victimized. Among them, three cases were not registered and in one case, the accused was released in 10,000 and other two were released on 15/15,000 bail amount. In three incidents of witchcraft allegation, six of the neighbor, one brother-in-law and nephew were accused. All three victims were beaten after being accused of practicing witchcraft. Three of the victims are getting medical treatment at Sagarmatha Zonal hospital. In case of human trafficking, one of the accused is in prison however one male and one female accused are at large. Two of the children were rescued while being taken across the border. Justice Saranga Subedi said that due to poverty, lower social level, lack of education, lack of awareness, child marriage, polygamy, dowry system, witchcraft allegation, malpractices and superstitions, the violence against women (VAW) is in increasing trend. The involvement of relatives, family members, neighbor, friends and office colleague has been found in the violence against women. The rights activists have been accusing the political parties of protecting the perpetrators instead of making the campaign for violence against women successful. The perpetrators are getting impunity because of the political parties. Due to the lack of political commitment, the violence against women is increasing. Lack of effective law and its implementation, the cases of violence against women is increasing day by day. M
