The District Court of Siraha has sentenced three months of imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 to each of the five accused who were involved in beatings of Domani Devi Chaudhary, 44, of Dhodana VDC-2 on February 6, 2013. The decision was given by a single bench of district judge Uddav Prasad Bhattarai on February 23, 2014. Domani Devi had lodged a complaint at Lahan Area Police Office on February 7, 2013 after she was severely beaten by locals Ramananda Chaudhary, 30, Umakanta Chaudhary, 32, Shova Chaudhary, 32, Nain Devi Chaudhary, 27 and Hira Devi Chaudhary a day earlier accusing her of a being witch. She was taken to the Neuro hospital in Biratnagar on the day of assault. All the accused were arrested by the police on February 9, 2013 and were released on bail amount of Rs 10,000 on February 24, 2013, Inspector Santosh Niraula of Area Police Office, Lahan informed.
