Man Accused of Woman Trafficking Remanded in Custody

Saptari/April 27 Ashok Kumar Yadav, 39, of Portaha VDC-2 has been remanded in custody on April 27 on charge to trying to sell a 33-year-old single woman. The single bench of Pushparaj Thapaliya sent Yadav to custody to investigate the allegation that he took the woman to bordering center of Sunauli across Rupandehi from Bhardaha VDC after getting into fake marriage. According to the victim, they had got married at Ram Janaki Temple in Janakpur on August 21, 2013 and were leaving in Kathmandu. Yadav returned home for the CA elections and from there, he called her on November 27 to come to Sunauli. In her statement at the court, she said that when she reached Bhairahawa, some four to five people forcibly kept her on a rickshaw saying she was already sold. She added that she managed to escape with the help of local people and took refuge at the centre run by WOREC. Kanchanpur Area Police Office had arrested Yadav on March 24 near APF Baramjhiya Camp following a complaint filed by WOREC Nepal Kathmandu and Biratnagar. A case under human trafficking was filed against him on March 30. Similarly, Ram Krishna Mehata, 28, of Supaul Bhagwanpur, India and currently living at Mansapur in Bamangama Katti VDC was sent to jail on remand on April 27 on charge of woman trafficking. Single bench of Kamal Prasad Pokharel also issued a warrant against his wife Laxmi Khadka, 24 on the same charge. He was arrested on March 28 when a 22-year-old woman of Hetaunda Municipality-2, Makawanpur and currently living in Itahari Municipality-5, Sunsari made noise after noticing that the accused were taking her towards India though they had told her that they would drop her in Itahari. The accused were arrested in Lalapatti VDC-9.
