The main opposition, Nepali Congress, has staged a protest against suspected corruption in handing over contracts for the construction of a railway line from Jhapa to Sunsari of eastern Nepal, at Maitighar Mandala of Kathmandu on Sunday.
A few weeks back, different media outlets had published a series of reports about corruption in the project.
The demonstrators held placards that read “why is the government silent?”, “why is the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority silent?”, and “why are political parties silent?”
“It is mysterious that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who always talks about good governance, is silent when there are questions about irregularities,” a demonstrator Dilliram Subedi said, “We want the government, the regulatory bodies and political leaders about the issue.”
Meanwhile, the opposition party’s president Sher Bahadur Deuba has also not said anything publicly about the issue.
