Electricity supply of Raya of Kharpunath rural municipality-3 was disrupted after the leaders of the old construction committee vandalized the powerhouse of a newly constructed hydropower project.
Millions of rupees were spent by the then Raya VDC and various organizations (Snowland Integrated Development Center Nepal and Alternative Energy) for the construction of this power plant that started in 2004. The amount received was squandered and items delivered to the village for construction were hidden. That is why the youths of Raya had formed a new committee that pledged to speed up the construction of electricity and light lamps in the village.
The newly completed Raya Khola Hydropower Project was inaugurated on October 30, 2020, by Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, a former minister and leader of the Karnali Province. Rawal alleged that a team including Balbir Rawal, secretary of the old power generation committee, who is also the former ASI of Nepal Police, vandalized the powerhouse less than two days after the inauguration.
