Besisahar Remains Tense All Day, Police Intervention Leaves Two Injured

Lamjung/May 30 Two elderly women have been injured when police intervened in the Lamjung bandh called by women of the district on May 30. They had called for the district bandh demanding action against those involved in the murder of Aita Maya Tamang, 18, of Bahundada VDC-8 who was found dead in the reservoir of Mid-marsyangdi Hydropower on May 28. Those injured in police intervention are Padam Kumari Damai, 70, and Kunti Pariyar, 65, of Besisahar VDC-9. Police had intervened when some youths torched tyres at Narayan chok in Besisahar during the bandh. The women staged protests all day demanding action against the culprit. Additional police teams from other parts of the district and APF team from Manakamana battalion in Tanahun has been mobilized after situation remained tense in the district headquarters Besisahar all day. Family of Tamang has received her body two days after post-mortem after police expressed commitment to take action against the culprit. Preliminary report of the post-mortem suggestes that the women might have been raped as blood was found in her private part and she had injuries in her head. Police have arrested Jit Bahadur Adhikari and his grand mother Padam Kumari Mahat of Bahundanda VDC-6 in connection with the incident. Seti Maya, mother of the deceased has filed a complaint accusing Jit Bahadur of killing her. Aita Maya, who was studying at grade 11 in Janabikash Secondary School in Besishar, was missing from her rented room in Shanti tool since May 21. According to police, her inner wear and bed sheet were found stained with blood from her room.
