Ganga Maya Adhikari starts another round of hunger strike

2020-12-21

Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu

Ganga Maya Adhikari, who had staged fast-unto-death for 11 times in the recent years demanding that murderers of her teenage son killed in 2004 in Chitwan during the decade-long armed conflict be booked, has started another round of hunger strike on Monday.

Claiming previous agreements signed with the government during past strikes were not implemented, she began the strike at Bir Hospital of Kathmandu this morning.

“I don’t need fake promises but justice,” she says, “It is better to die than to live deprived of justice. I will die fasting but will not end the strike unless I get justice.”

Her son Krishna Prasad was killed during the decade-long Maoist insurgency. Her husband Nanda Prasad Adhikari died in course of a hunger strike that he staged to press for legal action against the killers. After that, Ganga Maya has been staging and breaking fast repeatedly.
