Home Minister warns action against people speaking ill about President on social media

2021-01-03

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has warned of action against those making indecent expressions about President Bidya Devi Bhandari, assassinating her character on social networking sites. Thapa’s comment comes after he received a memorandum from All Nepal Women’s Association on Sunday, asking the Home Minister to condemn those who have spoken ill about the President following her endorsement of the House of Representatives’ dissolution.

The association says that the language used on social networking sites is anarchic, mean and indecent. The Minister further says the ministry has already begun its investigation. “The issues the politicos raised about the President from the street are illegal and warrant punishment. It is being investigated and I have directed for the action,” he says. The government has also been asked to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner.

“The decision of the government to hold elections in coming April and May is a welcome step. Although everyone has the right to free expression, anarchy is not accepted,” the association’s statement reads.
