Province 1, Khotang, Sakela, Ward 5
Prakash Rai, vice-principal of Sakela secondary school in Sakela Rural Municipality-5, Matti, assaulted Dipen Karki, a student of Saraswati Secondary school on April 10 during the President's Running Shield inter-school competition held at Sakela Secondary School, Ratanchha-2.
A video clip of the incident shows Karki running while other volunteers were trying to stop him from behind and even punched him. According to eyewitnesses, Rai and other teachers and volunteers beat him after they managed to stop him from being in the forefront.
After the student was beaten, other participants boycotted the competition saying that it was conducted in a one-sided manner. Despite boycotting the competition, the organizer Rai and the co-organizers conducted the program unilaterally, said Jeevan Khatri, vice-president of the Nepal Students Association Khotang.
