Locals have vandalized the houses of Mayor Gyanendra Shrestha, Deputy Mayor Bhim Kumari Raut Raut of Katari Municipality, and of the chairman Krishna Danuwar of Ward No. 4 and municipal information officer Om Mishra, on May 19, after the municipality demolished the houses that were built on public land.

After hundreds of locals attempted to set fire to mayor Shrestha's building, police fired two tear gas shells. The vandalism resulted in the total destruction of four homes. After agitated locals vandalized ward chairman Krishna Danuwar's home, the work of the Area Administrative Office was also hampered. To prevent encroachment on public land in the Jahadi district, the municipality demolished 4/5 homes, including the home of Santa Bahadur Sunuwar.
