Woman's Murder Probably Linked to Property Dispute

Saptari/July 29 Dead body of Urmila Devi Mandal, 48, of Simraha Singyaun VDC-6 has been found on the bank of Koshi Pump Canal No. 4 at Pipra of Belhi Chapena VDC-9 on July 28. Her body is beheaded and has deep cuts in face, hands and legs, police said adding that the postmortem was conducted in the evening of July 28. Her brother, Sitaram Mandal of Gamgariya Prawaha VDC-8 claimed that she was murdered by her step daughters and their husbands following dispute over family property. According to her, a case was sub judice in court regarding the partition of the property following the death of her husband Basudev Mandal. The issue of contention was whether to divide the property between the two surviving wives or to include six daughters too. A scuffle had occurred during the discussion on the issue at the police security base camp on July 27. She was going to her son-in-law Jit Narayan Yadav's house in Simraha Singyaun VDC-6 in the night of July 27 after the discussion at the police base concluded with any resolution. Yadav later said that a group of armed men stopped his motorcycle at Pipra in Belhi Chapena VDC-9 and killed her. Police also added that the murder could have been linked to the property case going on at the court.
