Police arrests four of a family for treating a woman inhumanely on witchcraft allegation in Mahottari

Police have arrested four persons on the charge of forcing a woman to eat faeces accusing her of being a witch in Mahottari.

The arrested have been identified as 65-year-old Pramiladevi Mahato of Jaleshwor Municipality-4 Suga, Pramiladevi's son and daughter-in-law 35-year-old Sikandar Mahato, 32-year-old Purani Devi Mahato, and Pramiladevi's younger son 20-year-old Anil Mahato, informed information officer Ranjan Mishra of District Police Office Mahottari.

The arrested people subjected the victim, 42-year-old Sukamariya Devi, wife of Sambhu Mahato to inhumane treatment on October 13 while she was visiting around Suga village. They forced her to eat faeces and forcibly shaved her hair calling her a witch. According to the information officer Mishra, Sikindar's 13-year-old daughter Kajalkumari had started crying after she saw Sukamariya. The family then abused her over the same issue.
