Family and relatives of Ladai Shah Teli, 26, of Dewahhi Gonahi Municipality, an inmate of Rautahat prison, who committed suicide by hanging inside the toilet of the prison with a towel wrapped around his neck, staged a demonstration claiming that he was murdered instead. According to Shambhu Prasad Yadav, head of the prison, the prison administration rushed him to the district hospital in Gaur but the hospital declared him dead at the same time. The family members of the deceased have surrounded the District Police Office and Gaur Jail accusing them of killing Sah and hanging him.
Sah, a resident of Dewahi Gonahi Municipality-7, was sent to Gaur Jail by the Gaur District Court on April 17, 2019, in a case of abduction, hostage-taking, and rape. The matter was heard in the Birgunj High Court on Wednesday. The wife of the deceased claimed that he was murdered by the leaders of the jail. And the family insisted on not claiming the body until the truth comes out. The Human Rights Commission has also expressed interest in the incident. A team from the commission's regional office in Janakpur has inspected the prison and questioned people, including prison chief Vicky Singh, about the incident.
