The users of Amarpath Road that connects Kanakai municipality and Jhapa rural municipality agitated due to delay in the progress of road construction. The locals of Jhapa rural municipality-6, Sharanmati obstructed the road by making bamboo barricades. The agitating locals obstructed the road on December 11 and 12 and had decided to stop all the vehicles other than ambulances and milk vehicles. The collective meeting including the ward chairperson Hari Bahadur Baniya, representatives from other parties, and locals decided to stop all the vehicular movement in the road until the road construction is guaranteed.
The construction of a 16-kilometre road is a multi-year project implemented through the provincial government. The contract worth 57 crore Nepali rupees was awarded two years earlier to Mainachuli-Roshan JV in September-2019.
