Landless people stage sit-in in Tanahu demanding land ownership documents

Landless people in Byas municipality of Tanahu staged a sit-in demanding land ownership documents on June 1. Squatters and and landless citizens of the municipality started putting pressure on the Chief Administrative Officer by staging a sit-in. Most of the people who submitted the memorandum were the residents of wards 10, 11 and 12 of Byas municipality. They handed over a letter to Administrative Officer Dilliram Sigdel on May 31, demanding to make arrangements for the distribution of land ownership documents as soon as possible. 

Chief Administrative Officer Sigdel said that the government started the process of making landless squatters owner of the land and expressed commitment to work as soon as possible by mobilizing manpower. He said that he would move forward positively to work on the problem of squatters even though the staff of the Land Commission and Byas Municipality have been jointly deployed. Rabindra Lal Mul, the senior engineer of the municipality, said that the work of collecting data and compiling data was cumbersome and it was not possible to work as planned due to lack of manpower.
