Banke girl survives gang rape by the boyfriend’s mates; police arrest 7

Police in the Banke district of southwestern Nepal have reported that a 16-year-old girl survived a gang rape in the district on Saturday. The law enforcers have rescued the girl and arrested seven people on the charge. The District Police Office spokesperson Madhu Sudan Neupanel says the girl was invited by her Facebook friend, Hemraj Tharu, a 17-year-old boy residing in Baijanath rural municipality of the district on Saturday. The girl has said she was in a relationship with Tharu since one year ago.

But, the boyfriend forced her to drink and then he and his four friends raped her in turn overnight, according to police. The girl had fallen unconscious after the incident. When two people were carrying her on a motorbike to Nepalgunj for treatment, police spotted the suspicious case and interrogated them. During the interrogation, the girl had told the police about the incident. Meanwhile, police have arrested seven people–five on the charge of rape, and two on the charge of working as accomplices. The gang rape survivor is residing at a shelter after treatment.
