Cadres of Hari Rana, a candidate of the ruling coalition in the upcoming election manhandled Swagat Nepal, an independent candidate for the seat of the House of Representatives election for Jhapa constituency no. 2.  during a candidate-voter interaction program organized by C K Institute of Thought Studies on November 7 in Birtamod of Jhapa. 

According to reports, a dispute rose when Rana confiscated microphone from Nepal while he was speaking, preventing Nepal from answering the questions asked by Rana's supporters. A participant in the program, Roshan Bohara alleged that a dispute arose after Hari Rana came to the podium and confiscated the microphone from Nepal when he was answering questions put to him by Rana's cadres. Rana allegedly manhandled Nepal in the process saying that it he need not answer the questions. Tulsi Upreti, a member of Nepal's campaign committee, stated that they have a video footage of the manhandling and mistreatment on Nepal.

Nepal's supporters also alleged Rana's cadres cutting off the microphone several times when Nepal was speaking and locking Nepal inside the program hall.
