Dolpa Folks Face Food Crunch since Seven Months

Dolpa, Sat mahina dekhi chamal abhab dolpali andolan ko tayari ma. Food crisis has hit various parts of the district owing to the lack of supply of food in Sarmi, Kaigau, Kalika, Narku, Majpal, Pahada, Liku, Tripurakot, Juphal and other VDCs since last seven months. The government has been supplying food in five districts of Karnali regional every year. However, Dolpa folks had to face food shortage even in Dashai and Tihar festival due to lack of food supply for a long time. The incessant rain during the time of harvest also contributed to the food deficit in Dolpa. Despite the allotment of 22,000 quintals of rice for Dolpa in past fiscal year, the government has not yet supplied the quantity. Hari Prasad Joshi, chief of Nepal Food Corporation Dolpa said that the central office of the NFC turned deaf ear to the repeated demands for food by his office. Central member of Nepali Congress Peasants Association Gauri Shankar Upadhyaya said that an all-party meeting held in the district on October 29 asked NFC central office to immediately supply food through the NFC Dolpa. A local Nam Bahadur Shahi of Narku said that the 'democratic government' made a mockery of the food rights of the people. He warned of strong agitation if food is not supplied in the district in few weeks.
