2015-04-06

Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu

Six pro-Maoist parties today organised a rally to protest the Supreme Court’s ‘verdict regarding the peace process’. All the top leaders of six Maoist parties — Unified CPN-Maoist, CPN-Maoist, CPN Maoist, CPN (Maoist), Revolutionary Communist Party Nepal and CPN-United — including Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Mohan Baidhya marched on the streets today. The protest rally that started from Babarmahal went through different parts of the city before converging at Shanti Batika where second rung leaders addressed the gathering. The six pro-Maoist parties have been jointly protesting the apex court verdict, accusing that the verdict violated the spirit of the Comprehensive Peace Accord and the Interim Constitution and has jeopardised the jurisdiction of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission for Inquiry of Enforced Disappeared Persons. During the protest rally, UCPN-M Chair Dahal and CPN-M Chair Baidhya jointly lit a lantern in a symbolic protest against the SC verdict. Meanwhile, the 30-party front, led by the UCPN-M, today organised a torch rally at different parts of the country. According to All Nepal National Independent Students Union-Revolutionary Chairman Ramesh Malla, 10 protesters, including ANNISU-R secretary Ranjit Tamang, were arrested from different parts of the Valley during the torch rally. He said police also raided ANNISU-R’s central office.
