A clash ensued between protestors and police in no-man's land in Miteri bridge between Birgunj and Raksaul in the evening of September 24. Police had used force and dispersed the cadres of Madhes-based parties who had brought the border point to a standstill by holding sit-in from the morning.
Cadres and leaders of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha and Sanghiya Samabeshi Madhesi Morcha had staged separate sit-ins in the border point but police intervened at around 2 pm and removed them. However, the protestors resumed their sit-in from 6 pm after which they clashed with police. Police fired six rounds of tear-gas shells to take the situation under contral, DSP Homendra Bogati of Parsa police said. He added that the protestors hurled stones at them.
Indian SSB are deployed at the Indian side of the Miteri bridge and Nepal Police are stationed in the Nepal side while the protestors occupied the middle of the bridge. Shiva Patel, leader of Sanghiya Samabeshi Morcha said that clash was taking place between the two sides.
No trucks carrying loads could pass through the border and reach Nepal due to the protests staged by Morcha.
