2015-09-30

Madhes, Parsa, Birgunj

The local administration has lifted the curfew in Birgunj sub-metropolis on Wednesday, declaring that the area is not a riot zone anymore. The District Administration Office, Parsa, had imposed an indefinite curfew in the sub-metropolis since August 31. Six people were killed and around two dozen, including security personnel, have been injured since the curfew was clamped in Birgunj. Chief District Officer Keshav Raj Ghimire said that the decision was taken after thoroughly assessing the condition in the area. However, the situation in the sub-metropolis is yet to be normal as Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha continues (SLMM) its protests. SLMM protesters have also continued their sit-in protest along with the Raxaul border point. In Morang, protesters on Wednesday vandalised an ambulance and severely beat the driver, Rabin Mandal, at Biratnagar-Rangeli section. SLMM protesters have also staged a sit-in protest at the Rani Customs point and obstructed cargo trucks bound to enter the country.
