Journalist threatened in Banke

Damodar Bhandari, Correspondent of The Himalayan Times daily and publisher/editor of local Sadbhav daily has been threatened of life by Inspector Bharat Singh Rathau on November 21. According to Bhandari, 32-year-old Inspector Rathaur of the Area Police Office Dhanauli came to his office and tried to manhandle him, threatening to kill him. Rathau, who is suspended currently accused me, in an aggressive manner, of trying to take away his job by publishing news about him, Bhandari said. He added that Rathaur in an inebriated state dropped his mobile phone on the ground when he tried to take pictures. The Sadbhav daily had carried news of Inspector Rathaur being involved in gambling and him being caught in a police raid. The daily had published news about Rathaur's suspension in its November 16 edition. "Why did you publish news about my arrest," Bhandari quoted Rathaur. The journalist filed complaints at the District Police Office on November 21.

Likewise, a Reporter of Nagarik Daily Arjun Wali, 29, of Khaskushma VDC-4 and living in Nepalgunj sub-metropolis said that a contractor Gnehs Shahi of Nagarik tol, Nepalgunj threatened him on November 21 at the daily's office in Nepalgunj accusing him of publishing news against him. The journalist filed complaints at the District Police Office on November 21. Police arrested Ganesh on November 22. SP Basant Pant of the DPO said that both sides would be called for discussion.
