Police registered a case of public offense against three persons in the district court on the charges of forcibly smearing sindoor on the forehead of a woman in Panchthar. The accused in the case have been identified as Bhagendra Chemjong of Phaktep-7, Bhagendra's sister Chandramaya Tumbapo and brother-in-law Bhabindra Tumbapo of the same place. In a case filed at the Panchthar District Police Office, a woman had reported that Bhagendra forcibly smeared sindoor on her forehead when she had come to a relative's house in Phaktep. In the Hindu culture, only a groom puts sindoor on the forehead of a woman with whom he is marrying. The woman has also named Bhagendra's sister and his brother-in-law as accomplices in the incident. Police formally registered the case in Panchthar district court on Monday. Following the registration of the case, Bhagendra is on the run.
