One injured in a police beating in Humla

Police have beaten up Bahadur Lama, 38, of Simkot VDC-9 on December 28. Lama's ribs have been broken and he underwent treatment in the District Hospital. Lama was beaten at around 9 pm on December 28 at his home by guns, batons on the charges of assaulting policemen, according to the victim’s side. According to Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta of the District Hospital, Lama sustained broken ribs and injuries in the kidney. The victim has been referred to Nepalgunj for further treatment. Preparation is going on to take the victim to Nepalgunj for further treatment on January 1, said Hichotan Lama, the victim’s wife. According to Hichotan, Lama was sitting with his friends at home when policemen from nearby police beat asked him to open the door and started beating him with guns, sticks, and boots. Police refused to file a case when they went to the District Police Office to file a case, Hichotan complained. According to Trilok Bahadur Chand, DSP of the District Police Office, the incident occurred when the locals tried to assault police. DSP Chand assured that he has not given any instruction and if policemen are found guilty, he will take departmental action against them.
