Corruption in relief distribution

2016-04-12

Bagmati, Kathmandu, Kathmandu

The Office of the Auditor General (OAG) has pointed out massive irregularities by various government bodies in the name of relief distributions to the earthquake victims. The OAG report showed that there was no uniformity in the number of earthquake victims receiving the Rs 15,000 relief and the victims receiving warm clothes distributed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA). MoHA data show that it distributed Rs 15,000 each to 421,485 victim families whose houses were completely damaged but when it came to distributing warm clothes, the ministry's record shows that it distributed the clothes to 4,42,719 victim families. Similarly, the home ministry says there are 467,510 households in Dhading, Rasuwa, Sindhupalchowk, Kavrepalanchowk, Dolakha, and Ramechhap districts though the 2011 census showed only 379,850 households in the districts. A report by a technical team of the District Administration Office, Sindhupalchowk showed 9, 459 quake-affected families in 10 VDCs of the district.
