Saptari locals besieged a police post located at Siswabelhi VDC of the district for three days.
The locals shut the police post staffed by five personnel, including ASI Bhupendra Dhungana over a marriage dispute that had broken out between Anil Sah of Siswabelhi and Mahottari’s Pinku Sah.
Anil’s father had allegedly agreed to marry him to Pinku.
However, the dispute erupted after Anil’s father prepared to bring someone else as Anil’s wife. Two months ago, Pinku had reached Siswabelhi after she came to know that Anil was being readied to marry some other girl.
Villagers and Pinku’s relatives had erected tents in front of the police post and demanded that the police press Anil and his father to bring Pinku as the bride. They had also prevented police personnel from using the tube well and toilet located in front of the police post.
ASI Dhungana said the agitators had issued a whip to the local traders not to sell recharge card, food and water to police personnel. “We could not come out of the office for three days after the locals besieged the police post,” ASI Dhungana said.
He added that they had to sleep on empty stomachs for three days as the reinforcement from Area Police Office, Kadarbona returned mid-way when called for help.
The villagers had left the police post after Anil was brought tothe site and Pinku was handed over to him today.
