Undeclared prohibitory order in Tikapur

2016-05-13

The District Administration Office, Kailali has issued an undeclared prohibitory order in Tikapur on Friday. The prohibitory order was issued in view of the demonstration by the Tharu community. Chief District Officer of Kailali, Abdul Kalam Khan, however, said that the administration has not issued the prohibitory order but has taken security precautions in order to avoid violent incidents like that of August 24, 2015. "Tikapur is getting back to normal following that incident. So we have requested the Tharu leaders not to organize any protest programs. It would not be appropriate to call it prohibitory order," CDO Khan told Republica Online.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in Tikapur. More than 500 police personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force have been mobilized in and around Tikapur Bazaar. "Security has been tightened in Tikapur in view of the protest programs planned by the Tharu community," said DSP Gautam Mishra. The security personnel are frisking suspicious people since early morning. The presence of heavy security since early morning has terrified the local people. The Tharu community is preparing to hold the program in the rural areas after security was beefed up in Tikapur. As many as nine people including eight security personnel and one minor had been killed in the demonstration on August 24, last year.
