Biratnagar locals against tarai protests

2016-05-21

Province 1, Morang, Biratnagar

Biratnagar locals have requested the leaders of Madhes-based parties to press for the rights of Madhesi people through Kathmandu-centric protests. They have urged the leaders not to torture the people of the Tarai by enforcing another blockade or banda in the region. “We supported our leaders during the five-month Tarai protest. They should now pile pressure on the Capital,” said Ram Mandal of Katahari, a local. Another Biratnagar resident Madhav Adhikari said the people in the plains have had their share of hardships brought by the protests and the border blockade. “The Madhesi leaders should find a way out in the Capital,” he said. Shailendra Kumar Sah, a vegetable seller from Gudri, said the leaders of Madhes-based parties should return only after securing the rights of the Madhesi people. “They should not torture people like us who depend on daily wages by organising another banda or protest,” he said. A majority of the people in the Tarai are against the idea of another protest in the region.
