Far-Western University padlocked

(Updated)--- Students associated with the Nepal Students Union, Kanchanpur, staged a sit-in after padlocking the main gate of the Far-Western University today demanding the resignation of the University registrar Dwijjraj Bhatta. As a result, teaching and learning activities have been disrupted. "Students of morning shift have been compelled to return home due to this," according to the University Administration. Students associated with All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) hurled a chair at NSU leader Purohit Badu and injured him when a discussion was underway among the students' unions in the presence of University Vice-Chancellor, Bhusan Shrestha, to end the stalemate in the University since long. The NSU determined that students associated with ANNFSU attacked Badu with the backing of Registrar Bhatta. Kishor Prasad Joshi of NSU said that they were compelled to padlock the main gate of the University demanding resignation of registrar Bhatta for his involvement in the incident. He said they would continue the sit-in and padlock until action is taken against the guilty. Meanwhile, issuing a press release, the central committee of the NSU demanded action against the guilty. Nepal Tribhuvan University Teachers 'Association and Employees' Association have expressed concern over the incident and demanded an environment conducive to the resumption of teaching-learning activities in the University. A statement signed by Bhim Dutt's president Padmaraj Awasthi and secretary Umesh Joshi and Bedkot secretary Dil Bahadur Kunwar objected to the statement made by the university's registrar Bhatta on social media. Similarly, the central office of the Nepali Union has claimed that Registrar Bhatta had deliberately attacked the Nepali Union by introducing 15-20 thugs in the name of UNRWA. The Office of the Controller of Examinations (OCE) of the Far -Western University that remained padlocked for the past two weeks was unlocked on Thursday following the three-point agreement between the protesting All Nepal National Free Student's Union (ANNFSU) and the university officials to this effect. However, The offices of the vice-chancellor and registrar remained padlocked. Joint secretary of the Kanchanpur chapter of the ANNFSU Kamal Rokaya said that they agreed to undo the OCE after the Examination Controller of the university was positive to their demands. The OCE was padlocked since May 19, following a protest launched by the ANNFSU putting forth various demands. The agreement included that the Examination Board itself should investigate the process of setting the criteria to rent the OCE, Rokaya said. RSS

Update ...... Classes resume at Far-western University The regular classes at the Far-western University resumed today after padlocks were removed on Vice-Chancellor and Registrar's offices. The classes remained obstructed for nine-days after CPN (UML) aligned All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) padlocked the Vice Chancellor's office with various educational demands. On the other hand, Nepal Student Union (NSU) aligned to Nepali Congress padlocked the Registrar's office alleging that the Registrar insulted NC leader on social networking sites. The two parties agreed on removing the obstruction during a meeting held at the District Administration Office, Kanchanpur three days ago.
