The District Court of Saptari has ordered a life sentence to Satrughan Prasad,32 and mother-in-law Sumitradevi Shah,54 on July 12 on the charge of murdering Nagina Shah,25 of Pansera VDC-5. The accused were remanded in custody in Rajbiraj. The victim’s body was recovered from the house on June 22, 2014, with bruises in her neck and body. The villagers said that the accused and victim had a domestic dispute on many occasion. They said that she was strangled to death after beating on the night of June 21.
The accused, both husband and mother-in-law, were arrested by the police on June 22 and lodged a case of murder against them. The post-mortem of the body was done at Ram Kumar Uma Prasad Memorial Hospital in Lahan on the same day the body was recovered. The husband and wife were married in the Hindu tradition in 2013, June 29. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s father Bimal Kishore Shah of Janakpur Municipality-10 on June 24, 2014, at Area Police Office of Kalyanpur, both the accused were arrested and charged under murder.
