Private medical colleges protest Dr Govinda KC strike

Some dozen persons including representatives of private medical colleges on Sunday to protest Dr Govinda KC’s fast-unto-death bola being staged at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital. The Association of Private Medical and Dental Colleges of Nepal had taken the lead to protest the move of the veteran orthopaedic surgeon, who is on his eighth fast-unto-death, stating that he was promoting emigration of Nepali medical students to foreign countries. Arguing that the Dr KC’s demands have changed from what he had argued for earlier, the doctors, professors, college operators, guardians, students and social workers had taken out the rally against, according to the Association. Photo Courtesy: Private Medical Association Despite the rain, the rally that started from Bhrikutimandap had marched through Bagbazaar, Purano Bus Park, Tripureshwor, Thapathali had concluded as a corner meeting at Maitighar. Addressing the rally, Association’s Chair Bhola Rijal made it clear that the rally was not for or against any individual; rather it was an attempt to secure and promote the medical education sector in Nepal. Rijal further clarified that the rally was taken out to deny accusation made by the veteran surgeon. He argued that medical education of Nepal was competitive enough and asked Dr KC not to engage in activities that would play a role against its promotion. Just yesterday, a group of Dr KC supporters had organised a similar demonstration pressing the government to meet his demands pronto.
