Fasting Dr KC's supporters arrested from Baluwatar

[Updated] Twelve supporters of fasting Dr. Govinda KC have been arrested from PM’s residence in Baluwatar during a protest on Tuesday. Four doctors and eight students were arrested when they tried to enter the prohibited zone in the PM’s residence. Dr. KC’s supporters had taken out a rally from Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) to Baluwatar against the government’s apathy towards Dr. KC’s demands. Metropolitan Police Range Spokesperson Pradhumna Karki informed the arrested have been kept at Metropolitan Police Circle in Kamalpokhari. KC is on an indefinite hunger strike at TUTH for the past 10 days.

update ------------- Protest in support of Dr. KC in Chitwan Scores of youth on Monday took the street of Narayangadh in the support of Dr. Govinda KC, an orthopedic surgeon who has been staging a fast-onto-death in Kathmandu for the last nine days. Blaming that the government has not shown any interest to address the demands put forth by Dr. KC, the youth urged the government to address his demands at the earliest. They chanted some slogan including “Save Dr. KC, Save Honesty and Morality”. Hundreds of youth were seen on the street of Lions Chowk of Narayangadh carrying a placard with the message: 'Lawmakers fulfill the demands of Dr. KC'. “The protest will continue until the demands put forth by Dr. KC are fulfilled,” coordinator of Prayash Nepal, Amar Ghimire, said, adding that lawmakers should not ignore issues related to health sector reforms. Different groups of youths are planning to support Dr. KC by organizing protest programs in the various areas of Chitwan district on Tuesday too.

Demand to release Dr. KC supporters Solidarity for Dr. Govinda KC Alliance has announced to stage a bigger protest outside Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), Tangal on Monday to condemn the police action in a peaceful protest. Issuing a press release, the Alliance has also demanded to immediately release those arrested during today’s protest. Police had lathi-charged and had arrested 10 protesters during a sit-in that was staged by hundreds of Dr. KC supporters. “Hundreds of security personnel were deployed to suppress the protest,” reads the statement, “We call for a bigger protest for tomorrow against the police’s suppression in the protest and CIAA’s arbitrariness.”
