A woman was assaulted on the charge of being a “witch” at Kalyanpur Jabdi VDC-7 in Siraha on Sunday evening. Pawan Yadav, a local school teacher, and his three sons, Saroj, Lale and Kale, reportedly attacked the woman accusing her of rendering Saroj’s wife ill with “black magic”. They also allegedly tried to force-feed human faeces to the woman. The woman’s daughter-in-law and her two grandchildren were injured while trying to stop Yadav and his sons. The accused served a brief detention period at a local police station, only to be released on a condition that they find a solution through dialogue. DSP Shyam Singh Chaudhary said the enmity between the two families had stemmed from a dispute over land, so we have asked both parties to resolve the issue through talks.
