Two women rescued in Kanchanpur

2016-07-27

Two women were rescued from the Gaddachowki border point in Kanchanpur district on Wednesday. They were being trafficked to Kyrgyzstan via India, according to Maiti Nepal, the organization which rescued the two women from Dolakha and Ramechhap districts. Maheshori Bhatta, the coordinator of the district office of Maiti Nepal, said the women did not have any documents with them. “The traffickers had told them that they would get their passports after reaching New Delhi,” said Bhatta. “The ‘agents’ had assured us that we would get jobs as domestic help in Kyrgyzstan, where we would be paid Rs 25,000-Rs 30,000 a month,” one of the rescued women said. Police have detained the ‘agents’—Narayan Shrestha, 47, of Sindhuli and Binod Lama, 40, of Sindhupalchok—on the charges of human trafficking. According to Maiti Nepal, as many as 70 women have been rescued from Gaddachowki since the devastating earthquake of April last year.
