DFO demolishes Radio Dhading building for encroachment

[Updated] The District Forests Office, Dhading with the help of security personnel demolished the building of Radio Dhading 106 MHz on Friday morning. The DFO had been accusing the radio station of encroaching the forest land and constructing its building. It had been warning the station to leave the land at the earliest. It has been learned that the DFO Chief Imanath Paudel, forest guards and Nepal Police personnel had also misbehaved with and manhandled the journalists there. The Forest Officer along with a huge number of police personnel and two excavators had reached the site at around 4 am today. Journalists Shankar Shrestha, Khem Bahadur Chepang, Saugat Lamsal and technician Ram Bahadur Shrestha were misbehaved and manhandled. It has been learned that all the equipment of Radio Dhading were destroyed while demolishing the building. According to Vice-Chairman of the Radio Dhading, property worth around Rs 10 million were destroyed in the incident. Earlier, the DFO had issued a directive to the Nepal Electricity Authority’s district head to cut off power line supplied to the Radio Dhading. NHRC to investigate pulling down of Radio Dhading building A team from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has arrived in Dhading to investigate the reports of the demolishing the building of Radio Dhading by the District Forest Office two days ago. The NHRC's action follows complaints that DFO officials including District Forest Officer misbehaved with women in the course of demolishing the Radio Dhading office and a building housing women security office. The team will inspect the incident site, meet victims and concerned authorities and inquire about the incident, NHRC investigation officer Nitu Gartaula said. Earlier, a journalists' team led by the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC), Nepal had conducted an investigation into the incident. The report will be made public in Kathmandu today, said Association Vice President Bishnu Hari Dhakal. RSS
