Victims of jackal attacks in Garuda, Rautahat staged a demonstration in Gaur today demanding compensation and treatment of victims. The victims, who bemoaned the irresponsibility shown by the government towards the treatment of jackal attack victims demanded compensation for the family of a victim who succumbed to a jackal bite about two weeks ago. They blocked the road in the Gaur-Chandranigahapur road section of the East-West Highway for four hours from 9:00am today. On October 4, local Basanta Kumar Yadav, a temporary teacher at Mahamadpur Lower Secondary School, was attacked by a jackal when he was jogging in the morning. He was then undergoing treatment at Kathmandu-based Tilganga Eye Hospital, where he died on October 22. Besides, more than 60 persons have been injured due to jackal bites in the district since the first case of jackal attack. Today the chakkajam ended after a team, including Chief District Officer Narahari Baral, reached the site and pledged treatment of the injured and sent 16 persons who were bitten by jackals and were prone to rabies to Sukraraj Tropical Hospital of Teku, Kathmandu, in ambulances. The administration has urged people to be on their guard. While there are awareness campaigns launched in the affected villages against jackal attacks, locals have been asked not to go to the fields to relieve themselves. स्यालको आक्रमणबाट ज्यान गुमाएका गरुडा नगरपालिका ३ स्थित महमदपुरका शिक्षक बसन्त यादवलाई शहिद घोषणा र घाइते अरु डेढ दर्जनलाई उपचारको माग गर्दै रौतहटको व्यापारिक केन्द्र गरुडामा बिहिबार तीन घण्टा चक्काजाम गरिएको छ । पीडितका आफन्तले स्यालको टोकाईबाट गम्भीर घाइते ५५ वर्षीय मगरु भन्ने रामफल महतोलाई टायरगाडासहित गरुडाको मुख्य बाटोमा राखेर बिहान ९ बजे देखि १२ बजेसम्म चक्काजाम गरेका थिए । पीडितपक्ष र स्थानीय प्रशासन बिच मृतकलाई सहिद घोषणा गर्नेबाहेक घाईते सबै १८ जनालाई थप उपचारका लागि आजै एम्बुलेन्सबाट काठमाण्डौ पठाउने सहमति भएपछी चक्काजाम खुलाइएको थियो । बैठकमा सहभागी एसपी गणेश रेग्मीका अनुसार स्यालको आक्रमणबाट शिक्षक बसन्त यादवको मृत्यु हुनुका साथै अर्का घाईते रामफलको अवस्था नाजुक भएपछि स्थानीयले प्रदर्शन गरेका हुन् । मानविय संवेदनालाई दृस्टीगत गर्दै घाईतेसबै १८ जनालाई सरकारी खर्चमा काठमाडौ पठाई उपचारको ब्यवस्था मिलाईएको रेग्मीले बताए । असोजको दोस्रो साता स्यालको आक्रमणबाट गरुडा नगरपालिका र अन्य केही ठाँउमा गरी २५ जना घाईते भएका थिए । घरमा चर्पीको अभावमा सौच गर्न खेतमा अथवा बाहिर गएको बेला उक्त घटना भएको थियो ।
